Toggenburg Goats
These goats are originally from the Toggenburg valley in Switzerland. While goats have been domesticated for meat since long before the development of the Toggenburg, these are the most ancient known dairy goats. They have the standard “Swiss coloration” and Alpine-type body.Their milk is relatively low-fat, but makes a very good fresh cheese. The Toggenburgs bred within Great Britain and New Zealand (originally imported from Britain) are more heavy-set and have higher-quality milk, but also require higher maintenance.
