Reed Flute Cave
Formed about 600,000 years ago when an underground lake began receding, and is a series of galleries in the side of a hill, rather than a “true” cave. Crystallized calcium carbonate speleoforms were formed by the rushing around of water.
When the cave was “re-discovered” in the 60’s (it had evidence of visitation from several thousand years prior), the natural reflections of the bluish light on the crystals and formations was stunning as it was. It wasn’t bright enough to see well, though, so now that it’s open to the public, the cave contains lighting from traditional Chinese lamps in many colors.
